Environment
I believe that our natural environment is Pennsylvania’s second-greatest resource after Pennsylvanians themselves.
Too many of our rivers are still polluted. Too many urban areas in Pennsylvania still have some of the most polluted air in the country. Southeastern Pennsylvania is vulnerable to encroaching seas if global climate change goes unchecked.
I favor responsible extraction of natural gas from the Marcellus Shale. Natural gas is better for the environment than coal, and it is available in our own back yard. The gas in the Marcellus Shale is Pennsylvania’s resource and Pennsylvania should be compensated when it is extracted, bringing badly needed revenue into state coffers. Corporations must not be given free reign to destroy the environment in their search for profits.
Pennsylvania must continue to invest in green energy. Wind and solar energy especially provide quality jobs and clean energy at the same time. I am a supporter of Clean Water Action and Clean Air Action in Philadelphia.
