Education
Education is vitally important to the future of our city and our commonwealth. Philadelphia schools are in better shape now than they were ten years ago, but there is still too much room for improvement.
The entire community must come together to educate our children, beginning with Head Start, continuing all the way through high school graduation, and ending with diplomas from college, community college, or a vocational school. Without parent involvement in their children’s schools, success will be impossible. We need to turn schools into community centers open twelve hours a day, hosting activities before and after school so that children can concentrate on their studies and parents will know they are safe.
We need to make sure that teachers have the tools they need to succeed in the classroom, and we must also hold them — and administrators — accountable for the results. Most of all we need to make sure that our schools are safe, nurturing places for our children.
I am a proud graduate of both Penn and Temple. I have experienced firsthand the quality education it is possible to receive in Philadelphia, and I am committed to ensuring that all Philadelphia kids have the same opportunity.
